   ~Blog Post~

One of my favorite romantic myths  is the story of the selkie maiden and the fisherman who steals her seal skin so that she can live with him in human form and be his love. Of course, in most versions of the story, the selkie eventually retrieves her skin in some way and goes back to her home in the sea (but I like to ignore that part of the story, since I am a firm believer in happily-ever-afters. *Grin*).

"The truth is not what you know, it's what you believe."

In fact, I liked the idea of that myth being so commonly known (and believed) in medieval Scotland, that I wove a bit of the belief in that magic into the third book in my Highlands Trilogy, Highland Magic.

Also, in one of my favorite Colin Farrell movies, Ondine (which was shot in and around Pulleen to the west of Castletownbere, Beara Peninsula, County Cork, Ireland, so GORGEOUS scenery), the hero sweeps a 'selkie' up into his fishing net, and love and romance unfold. I absolutely drool over a sensitive, sexy, conflicted, Colin Farrell, and he is all of these and more in this film. PLUS, it has a happy ending!

  33. I like a bit of both. If it's all romance and no real plot, I'll get bored. Contrarily, if there's only action and no romance, it's more likely to get a lower rating from me. A happy balance of both worlds is a great thing.

  34. My favorite mythological story is Osiris and Isis. It involves romance, betrayal, and vengeance. Basically, the more complex the characters, the more I'm likely to be invested.
